Every few years there’s a product that disrupts the industry, and people huddle around to discuss how said product is a game changer. There is a huge market for professional audio systems in business and residential installations, and it was Thenos who introduced me into this world. The product they brought to the industry was something called The PlayBox, and it was introduced in Cedia’s 2015 convention. I had the pleasure of landing the project of coming up with the Thenos brand, and with less than 3 weeks to do so, I quickly began joining forces with the company leadership in order to achieve these results.
Now the PlayBox is a professional enclosure which houses the Sonos Play 1 speaker, and these PlayBoxes get professionally installed in residential or businesses audio systems. So far the response has been great, and the product has incredible potential as it evolves in the market. I understand there was a few iterations of the PlayBox going through a handful of prototypes, but ultimately the hero version was show ready. Understanding the industry and the technologies that it supported, I wanted to be sure that product would catch the target audience’s eyes.
Chris Manouel, the owner and inventor of the PlayBox already had a brand idea in place. He has created some posters which had some funky style photos for the Cedia event, and from those first concepts I expanded on the brand. I explored a blue liquid aesthetic to add to his photos in order to simulate fluidity.
Fast forward to today, and I revisited those designs from yesteryear, and created an updated version to his product branding for the mobile world. I think it looks like a slight improvement over the 2015 version. I even designed a nice little presentation deck in Keynote.
Thenos will be the Apple of the home and commercial audio/video industry, and with a little help from some creative design, I am certain the possibilities are infinite. Chris is always innovating so maybe Thenos will even create something for the Apple HomePod. So if you want to see the working prototype of this mobile design, I went a step further and created a demo in Invision with the iPhone X design.
