Ahhhhhhhhh! Put your face masks and your rubber gloves on, and get ready to escape quarantine for some photos! It’s time for…
Has anyone seen a day as beautiful as today? The sun is shining, the sky is blue and peppered with fluffy white clouds. You take in a deep breath of fresh air with your mask on, and then you remember that there’s this virus all around that’s trying to kill you every day. It sounds like the stuff nightmares are made of, but nope, this is our reality today. Stepping outside for a little exercise with the people who have the same bright idea all around with masks on to help spread that illusion of 6 feet apart safety.
We head out for a bike ride throughout the perilous country roads of Frisco, Texas. What do we find? We find empty streets that were once filled with vehicles, now sparsely filled with bikers and joggers getting their calorie burn in.
There is still a sense of caution exercised by many in the city. Even while bike riding we see masks and gloves. For the most part, it gave us back a sense of normalcy. We stopped every so often for photo opportunities as we rode on through the suburbs. You can discover lots of things while on a bicycle that you miss out on when you’re in a car. So we decided to escape quarantine and put together a nice little collection of photos from our bicycle adventure here.
First Setup: Profoto B10 Plus and a Profoto OCF Beauty Dish.
Second Setup: Profoto B10 with Profoto OCF Magnum Reflector and a Profoto A1 Off Camera Flash.
We learned a great deal from these shots. Mostly to pay attention to your surroundings because you never know what you might be missing out on. We are always on a fast pace, and perhaps it is better to take our time. One important lesson I learned about being out in the field is that it isn’t a good idea to rush yourself. Take a look around, think about what you’re wanting to achieve, and be creative with what you have. I can definitely understand the pressure of trying to get that perfect shot, but I’ve learned that trusting your gear, and thinking things out will help that experience shine.
Having that Profoto OCF Beauty Dish really makes for an incredible soft light even when the sun is hitting your subjects hard. For example we found this really neat shrub wall along this usually busy street that we had to stop and take a photo. You wouldn’t know it by looking at it that there was a busy street right behind the model. It’s the little things like this in finding a photo op in the least likely of places.
During our exploration we did see this beautiful pond that we had to stop by and enjoy the scenery. We had a picnic with the usual sandwiches, chips, water, but then we carried on for more photo ops. I remember the days of bike riding as a kid. If we ever ran into a dead end like a fence or something, we wouldn’t go around, we instead would throw our bikes over the fence, climb the fence, then keep riding on.
And that is what we will do today as we continue to distance ourselves from the rest of the world. We’ll climb that fence and we’ll keep riding on.
