It’s always a pleasure to work with industry professionals. Allowing someone to take creative liberties in the realm of high fashion is a constant breath of fresh air. We are bringing the heat with this photo production! Now it’s time for…
We prepare our studio light setup in advance. I’m a big fan of the brand Moncler. Their branding is so dope! If you have a look at any of their products, the type of lighting they prepare for their photos is very unique. We aim to replicate that look with some variations Moera Creative style.
Light Setup:
2 Profoto D1 Studio strobes & 2 1×6 RFI Profoto Strip Softboxes on each side of the model. A Profoto D1 Profoto & Profoto Silver Beauty Dish to add that beautiful light to the face. We also added on occasion a Profoto A1 as a hair light.
Ericka and I began production with some mood boards that included a color palette, some makeup ideas, types of wardrobe, and the theatrical hair style. With just a touch of magic we created a whole new person with the talents of Kerstie Tarango and Jordan P. Crenshaw at the helm of hair and makeup.
As you can see from the Before and After shots, the final look has drastically changed our model from head to toe.
Moncler is this super expensive puffer jacket brand and a whole lot more. I think the cheapest jacket I have seen in there product line is around $900 USD. They also have regular T-shirts that cost about $400 USD, so they are very proud of their products. I’ve seen my share of Moncler knock offs out there going for $200 USD, but today we decided to try and reproduce the Moncler look with a puffer jacket by Forever 21.
What interests me about Moncler is the style in their product photography. Have a look at their Instagram or website to see what I’m talking about. You’ll be able to see for yourself how much care they put into the branding. It is very inspirational if you’re a photographer looking for a new and creative lighting styles.
Of course no fashion look can be complete without some sort of signature sun glasses. We found these really cool yellow tinted shades at Forever 21 in the shape of hearts. The catch lights make for a really cool reflection there in the lenses.
You can see the emphasis on the jacket, the hair, skin tones, and glasses where ever the light just gracefully hits our model. That shininess in the puffer jacket adds to the beautiful output of the image. I’m really digging this overall look.
Black and yellow over the golden brown skin was the way to go here. Ericka has great eyes and an awesome skin tone. So I wanted to come up with a makeup color theme to enhance those features she has. Complimenting the style with black lipstick, yellow fingernails, and that great golden color lining on the eye lids.
The hair is composed of these really cool braids which wrap above the ear line and drop towards the face like swinging side burns. Ericka’s hair was long enough to pull this off nicely. You can see the detail in the profile shots.
Bringing some attitude to the photos, Ericka has been a seasoned model all of her youth. Rolling with the dynamics of a photo shoot, she can bring any character presence to life. I like this shift in gears because the wardrobe tends to have a life of its own when it is followed up by the model’s mannerisms.
We now go for more of a relaxed look with a change of outfits, all while still maintaining that attitude we love in each photo. There is a certain tone you express as a model, and I think it’s important to showcase that in every photo.
Final Thoughts:
This was an especially fun photo shoot for everyone involved. I certainly enjoyed the mixture of simple colors and the dark theme. Our beautiful model doesn’t even look like the same person. I am blown away by the creative work of everyone involved, and I look forward to working with everyone again on new projects in the future.
