I went to the local grocery store and purchased a bunch of the aunt Jemima syrups for the fear of the product being discontinued. You have to know that no breakfast pancakes are complete without that Jemima kiss! Over the pour of the sticky syrupy goodness that is aunt Jemima on my fluffy breakfast pancakes, it had occurred to me that I’d not showcased some of my latest work. It was at this moment that I had to put breakfast aside and head on over to the computer to assess these pink images. What in the world was I thinking? Agreeing to shoot these photos at 3pm when the sun was blaring hard core overhead. If only aunt Jemima could save me now!
Frisco, Texas has this little pond place where we have shot a photo series in a prior post. It is a silly place that has a bunch of rocks laying around, and at the center is a stream that goes right into a giant pond. People fish, lay out, and just chill as they stare zombily into their personal hand sets for hours at a time. All the while never noticing the beauty that has been robotically set up for them all around. So we begin our shoot here in the middle of a crisis while we fashion it up. Houses surround the area where curious neighbors peek out of their windows with eyes hovering to catch a glimpse of the activity. It is a bit creepy to say the least knowing everyone is watching, but I am careful not to drop the soap and we continue on with the posing and the snapping.
I hate social media. I hate it. How come you ask? It has to do with posting every shit you take. Pictures of food, pictures of yourself in front of the bathroom mirror, and countless images of duck lips and finger tips delivering a peace sign. Striving to be different is challenging, and as you infinitely scroll with a 3 second attention span you realize everything starts looking the same. You’re no longer impressed. Then, you come across a cat playing the keyboard and that generates a laugh. But you’ve seen this before. You start to repeat yourself, and wash, rinse, repeat. Take yourself out of that environment and you end up with something like this. Sweating through the 90 degree weather with two teens who cannot make up their mind about which directions to face or how to pose. Luckily for me I have what old people refer to as experience!
This little fashion outing was the brain child of two aspiring phone photographers/models who wanted to up their insta game. Ericka and Margeaux hold the world record in getting their way. Imagine being cooped up for months and wanting to get back that sense of normalcy. I guess I am preaching to the choir here, but all in all I could see it in their eyes that they were happy to be in their modeling element once again. I understand that it has been too long for some people to not have a creative outlet. Myself included. In the end, maybe we are all just waiting to get back to normal. A normal where you just have to post that 50th photo of those pancakes you’re having for breakfast.
