About one third of the United States is covered by forest, and William Ross tries to make art out of every bit of it. The whole art of wood burning is quite interesting to me. For every artist, there is probably an arsonist deep inside trying to come out. Luckily for us, William has his own fires under control. Undergoing his own personal hardships over the years, nothing seems quite like putting twin torches to a piece of heavy madera. Don’t get the wrong idea, but who doesn’t like the smell of burning wood in the morning?

Now I have to admit that I am quite the procrastinator, for these photos are well over a year or two old. But in my defense, I am lazy. I’d like to think it is because you can’t rush art, but this is not the case. Maybe that’s what all artists say as an excuse to slowly swing at society with their tirades of apathy, but in this case, I am glad to look back on these photos. This shoot took place in Grapevine, and we were in some city park surrounded by all these trees, when all of a sudden we heard a little girl crying within ear shot. The classic story of the lost girl in the woods here, but William had brought his super heroin sister, and her hero husband. These two good summeritans quickly flew into action, and took this child to the mother that was just a few yards away. Good people doing good things, and my eyes are wide open.

William comes from a class of honest to goodness people. You can see that self reflection in his actions, and his incredible art work. I learned that he is a loving husband that misses his wife when she is away on business, and even goes that extra mile to make things special upon her return. You can say he has a burning sensation deep down inside. I hear there are medications for that, but William needs no treatments for the things he has come up with. With all he has going for him, the challenges of the past pale in comparison to the positives he has in store for his future.
