The Garden of the Gods

For anyone who has traveled to Colorado, they know how cold it can get. That isn’t the only thing Colorado is known for. I mean, why is there a sudden spike of visitors to Colorado these days? Mostly by young adults trying to live out there mother and father’s hippie years through the art of blazing the cabbage. Maybe they go for the skiing? Perhaps it is not any of that. Maybe the Gods summon people there. Yeah, the Gods! That’s it! So regardless of which one you believe in or don’t believe in, you cannot deny the awesomeness of these gods here.

I drove up to Colorado with my father to experience what Colorado Springs had to offer. Snow jackets and all, we felt the temperature just drop as we approached the city. Denver wasn’t far away, but we stopped by the Garden of the Gods in order to see what life here was all about. Maybe the Gods here would bless us with fame and fortune. Nah, that didn’t happen, they just stood very still and posed for us in a majestic fashion.

There is a city ordinance about launching UAVs / drones from the park, so you have to step outside the Garden of the Gods to lift off. I think it was about 22 degrees and there was wind speed hitting about 16mph. It was not the most ideal of conditions, but nevertheless, beautiful video was captured that gloomy day. DJI Inspire 1 batteries don’t really handle that well in the cold, despite what the company tells you. Last I heard, you could take flight on an Inspire 1 in 5 to 15 degree weather and it would still be safe. Your batteries just have to be warm enough. But if you’re not careful, the batteries could fail and plop, there comes your drone straight down.

For the trip itself, the Garden of the Gods is well worth the visit. A lengthy walk around the park gives you some great scenery for photos, and the experience itself is fascinating. I’d recommend taking some gloves though because your fingers will freeze up. Maybe after a day of  taking pictures and flying drones, you can stop by your local dispensary and get yourself one of those nice magic cigarettes everyone keeps telling me about.
