Packing a Nikon D850 with a Nikkor 24/70mm Lens. Profoto B10+ with a 2 Foot Profoto Octabox with Grid. Run n Gun Style in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas.
Walking the streets in full on bat gear is Day$tar. Rapper, performer, climber, and all around nice guy dressed up as the dark knight. A run and gun style photo shoot here in Dallas’s own Ellum of the Deep. Alley to alley, street to street and we are off making our way using every bit of Deep Ellum’s backdrop as our canvas on a Sunday afternoon. Resting Scary Face tags along to smoke ciggies, hold the lights, and scare the locals.
Day$tar is bold and ambitious. Nothing like soft plastic and a thin layer of rayon to protect you from a 6 story free fall. Fearless and true to the character, Day$tar stood stoic among the mild danger looming overhead. Standing tall, climbing walls, getting close to the walking locals, and embracing the community who seemingly adored him at every corner. A smile touched across almost every face from young and old. I didn’t know someone who dressed up as a giant bat could bring so much joy and draw much more attention.
My days and nights are filled with oddities, and as a photographer I keep a nice and healthy balance of normal to tipping the scales of the unusual. Photo escalation of someone sitting in the park with a nice dress to someone fighting crime in the city dressed as a bat would be a stairway into the unknown. I’ve no idea what I will be shooting next, but hopefully it will continue to make heads turn and bring smiles across those faces.
