“It’s odd that someone is out taking photos of buildings at 3:00 AM,” says a Mansfield peace officer.” Odd is when that lady found a human finger in her Wendy’s chili, this was just irregular,” I said. As it stands, taking night photography can be dangerous, but on the flip side it can be relaxing and rewarding. You’re pretty much all by yourself taking exposures without anyone to bother you, or people getting in your shot. Even worse, you could get shot. Initially Mansfield’s finest must have thought I was bat shit crazy when I asked them if they knew where Bruce lee was, but luckily one policeman knew exactly what I was talking about. They pointed me to the right direction and I was on my way to take a few photos of the legend himself.

Artists Eddie and Mary Phillips undertook the project in Mansfield 30 30. They had 30 days to paint 30 murals on businesses around downtown Mansfield. Being a big fan of Mr. Lee myself, I had to see how he was immortalized with his signature stance here. It’s so cool to see one of my kung fu heroes, in all places, Mansfield. It brings back memories of when I was a kid watching kung fu movies on tv. In between commercials, my brother and I would kick the shit out of each other mimicking the moves we saw from classic Shaw bros and Bruce Lee films. There was crying involved, but as soon as the kung fu movie came back on, it was all about the bad assery of Bruce Lee. “I think it’s nice, people that come to Mansfield take notice of all the artwork”, says Tanya of Frosted Pink Cake Company. Kupa Tea owner expresses her thoughts on the artwork around Mansfield. “I love it!” she says. “We think its great!” says Nicky from Aspirations Boutique and Art Studio. Clearly the residents love these murals and are supportive of the art community.

Mansfield frequently hosts events that brings in artists and musicians year round. Nothing says welcome to my town quite like the street tattoos that embellish the walls here. The town breathes inspiration for such a small area, so I’d recommend visiting here during normal business hours to have a look. You may catch some of those famous dead people looking right back at you.
