From the Top of Seattle

Visiting Seattle, Washington after so many years brings back memories. I lived in Oak Harbor, Washington when I was a young boy. My brother was stationed there on North Whidbey Island, and for a time, I stayed with him while attending school.

It was a new experience for me, and the town was relatively small. There wasn’t much I could do for fun since everything that was interesting to me was about 2 hours away.

We made the drive to Seattle twice during my time there. I also visited Steven’s Pass Ski Resort once. It was the very first time I ever snowboarded.

I can recall being sore for two weeks. I didn’t do much snowboarding as I did falling, but the resort was nice. I’d never been on a ski lift let alone a mountain, but the experience was amazing to me.

Now I am back in the state of Washington, visiting, taking in the sights I vaguely remember. My daughter and I headed to Snoqualmie. We did some skiing while we were there. My situation did not change much, as I struggled on the snowboarding again. She however did quite well. We also visited some major forest (can’t recall which one) and we hiked for a few hours that day.

Now, if you are visiting Seattle for the first time, you will probably stop by the Space Needle. For some odd reason there was hardly any visitors this day, and I also noticed fencing up around the top. I don’t ever remember this being there, but as I understand it, people had jumped off this structure in the past. It really isn’t that great to be honest. I mean the Space Needle is beautiful, but there was so much overcast (as usual) that you had a really hazy view. Nothing really popped out at you, and the fencing around your view didn’t help much either.

I look forward to coming back to Seattle. Despite my criticisms, I actually would love living here again. The people are friendly, a ski resort is always a short distance away, the view of the water is pretty much everywhere, Seahawks, Starbucks, oh and of course, the fresh air.
