Revisiting the old photos

A blast from the past here. I was sorting through some of my photo archives, (as some photographers tend to do when they house clean), and I happened to find some of these little gems from my Nikon D90 archive. I began shooting film when I was but a boy photographer, and when the digital realm hit me, well it was a real convenience to be sure. I often would ask friends and family to volunteer for some photo shoots, and so here stepped in the McDaniels.

These photos may be over 6 years old, but they have that nostalgic appeal to me, because I do remember using the camera with some cheapo lighting. My way of thinking had been to fix everything in post, and that soon became a grueling nightmare because I spent more time “fixing” than I did shooting. Photography was different, and has been ever since I have gained more experience.

Tanya and Jeff were good sports, and willing to pose for my camera a few times. Each time, they exercised their patience with me as I moved lights around, adjusted my settings, and had them pose randomly. The important lesson here is learning how to handle multiple subjects in a closed environment, where natural light is no where to be found. You have to be quick, and direct your subjects in order to make the photo session a great experience. If not, the drab will show up in your photos, and you do not want that. It is always nice to revisit some of your older works, and take the good from the bad, in order to see how much you have grown.
